Morphological Processing in Children with Developmental Dyslexia: A Visual Masked Priming Study

چکیده
This study examined the processing of derivational morphology and its association with early phonological skills 24 Dutch-speaking children dyslexia 46 controls matched for age. A masked priming experiment was conducted where semantic overlap between morphologically related pairs manipulated as part a lexical decision task. Results suggest that morphological is intact in when compared to age-matched controls. Significant effects were found each group. Children solely benefit from morpho-semantic information, while morpho-orthographic form properties morphemes-influenced Due longitudinal nature data set, an examination awareness’s role later development possible. Visual control in children with developmental dyslexia.
PURPOSE To assess binocular control in children with dyslexia. METHODS Cross-sectional study with 26 children who were submitted to a set of ophthalmologic and visual tests. RESULTS In the dyslexic children less eye movement control in voluntary convergence and unstable binocular fixation was observed. CONCLUSION The results support the hypothesis that developmental dyslexia might present...
متن کاملChildren with developmental dyslexia show a left visual “minineglect”
We investigated the performance of children with developmental dyslexia on a visual line bisection task. Dyslexic children did not show the overestimation of the left visual field (pseudoneglect) characteristic of normal adult vision. These results suggest that children with developmental dyslexia present selective deficits in visual attention, probably involving neural structures located in th...
متن کاملAuditory Morphological Knowledge Among Children With Developmental Dyslexia
The aim of the present study is to examine the morphological knowledge of readers with developmental dyslexia compared to chronological age and reading-level matched controls. The study also analyzes the errors dyslexics make and their metamorphological awareness compared to controls. Participants included 31 seventh-grade dyslexic children and two matched control groups of normal readers: 34 s...
متن کاملMorphological awareness in developmental dyslexia.
This study examines morphological awareness in developmental dyslexia. While the poor phonological awareness of dyslexic children has been related to their difficulty in handling the alphabetical principle, less is known about their morphological awareness, which also plays an important part in reading development. The aim of this study was to analyze in more detail the implications of the phon...
متن کاملSemantic and morphological effects in masked priming
Data from masked priming experiments have been used to support a traditional view of the mental lexicon where morphemes are stored discretely and complex words are decomposed in processing. In masked priming, visual primes are presented briefly and masked so to that subjects cannot consciously process them. This paradigm is generally considered insensitive to semantic effects. Thus, results sho...
